About The Position

The Outpatient Pharmacy Intern performs duties typically associated with a pharmacy technician under the general supervision of a pharmacist. Key responsibilities include filling medication orders, delivering medications, compounding sterile and non-sterile preparations, and interviewing patients to gather medication histories. The intern also provides essential pharmacy services by handling clerical duties to ensure efficient operations, managing medication ordering, receipt, stocking, and inventory control. Additionally, they are responsible for receiving and interpreting outpatient prescriptions and accurately entering them into the pharmacy computer system. The role requires adherence to general hospital standards, promoting a cooperative work environment through effective communication, strong interpersonal relationships, and team building.

Requirements

  • Intern registration: NC, SC, GA
  • Licensure: GA (intern), IL (tech)
  • Permit: AL
  • Certification: SC Tech registration: WI
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Current enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy in the 1st year of the program
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Works well with management and pharmacy staff
  • Solid communication, analytical, and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties of a pharmacy technician such as: filling medication orders, delivering medications, compounding sterile and non-sterile preparations, interviewing patients to obtain medication histories, etc.
  • Provides pharmacy services to the patient care areas and customers by performing clerical duties in the pharmacy to ensure efficient operations.
  • Performs duties related to medication ordering, receipt, stocking, and inventory control.
  • Receives and interprets prescriptions for outpatients and enters them into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building.
