About The Position

Works in a specialized, declared area of clinical practice and considered to be a subject matter expert. Serves as a liaison between Clinical Nutrition and other practice areas. Takes an active role in research and education, including publication, reviewing studies, curriculum development or presentation as a nutrition expert. Highly contributes and may lead initiatives and committees to develop best practices for nutrition care (eg, protocols, guidelines, tools). Provides individualized medical nutrition therapy to ambulatory and hospitalized patients as a part of a multidisciplinary team in a tertiary care center. Serves as a consultant on nutrition care for other members of the health care team. Applies evidenced-based medical nutrition therapy standards of care to incorporate the nutrition care process: nutrition assessment/re-assessment, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention, and nutrition monitoring/evaluation. Completes thorough assessment, including nutrition focused physical exams, review of medical record for anthropometrics, medical history, labs, food allergies/intolerances, and drug-nutrient interactions. Identifies diagnostic criteria, including malnutrition. Interventions include developing advanced/specialized nutrition plans and writing orders/recommendations for therapeutic diets, oral nutrition supplementation, vitamin and mineral repletion, and nutrition support (enteral and parenteral) for high acuity/medically complex patients. Provides nutrition education/ counseling utilizing principles of motivational interviewing. Empowers family and caregivers to support medically complex patients with therapeutic diet prescribed. Coordinates ongoing nutrition care for patients, facilities, caregivers, and durable medical equipment companies. Completes documentation in electronic health record per institution standards. Contributes to financial and clinical outcomes through implementation of services. Awareness of accreditation and regulatory guidelines that relate to nutrition. Works collaboratively with colleagues throughout the enterprise to develop MNT practice guidelines and/or protocols, curriculum and nutrition education materials. Precepts dietetic interns; mentors and trains new staff. Provides direction and collaborates with dietetic technicians and administrative support staff. Works collaboratively with providers and other allied health care staff to develop and deliver programs and services that promote both therapeutic and wellness initiatives. Researches best practice to ensure effective interventions and measures outcomes of interventions. Demonstrates effective public speaking/presentation skills.To maintain status as an Advanced Practice dietitian, incumbents must continue to meet the requirements of the advanced practice professional by actively contributing to advancing the field through research, practice, or education initiatives. Advanced Practice Registered Dietitians may also hold a dual role as a Lead.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or related field.
  • Graduate of an Accreditation Counsil for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited internship or approved training program.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Minnestoa as a Licensed Dietitian.
  • Three years clinical experience preferably in a declared focus area of practice.
  • Licensure with the state of Minnesota.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist or Registered Dietitian.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in nutrition or related field and/or additional nutrition-related specialty certifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to advance the field of clinical dietetics, performing advanced work in the area of research, practice, or education.
  • previous nutrition support experience and/or CNSC preferred
