About The Position

Outpatient Gastroenterologist (MD/DO) Position Summary The Outpatient Gastroenterologist provides comprehensive consultative and procedural care for patients with gastrointestinal, hepatic, biliary, and pancreatic disorders in an ambulatory setting. This role focuses on diagnosis, medical management, preventive care, and endoscopic evaluation, delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care with limited or no inpatient responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency program
  • Completion of an accredited Gastroenterology fellowship program
  • Board-eligible or board-certified in Gastroenterology
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
  • DEA registration or eligibility
  • Expertise in outpatient gastroenterology and endoscopic procedures
  • Strong clinical judgment and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent communication and patient counseling abilities
  • Ability to manage chronic gastrointestinal conditions longitudinally
  • Commitment to evidence-based, high-quality patient care
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during procedures
  • Manual dexterity and stamina for endoscopic care
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for clinical and procedural environments

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage patients with gastrointestinal conditions including GERD, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, pancreatic disorders, and colorectal conditions
  • Provide outpatient gastroenterology clinic care and longitudinal follow-up
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures consistent with training and privileges, including upper endoscopy and colonoscopy
  • Participate in colorectal cancer screening and prevention initiatives
  • Interpret diagnostic studies including pathology, imaging, and laboratory results
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Collaborate with primary care providers and specialists such as hepatology, surgery, oncology, and nutrition services
  • Educate patients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, procedural risks and benefits, and preventive care
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiatives
  • Supervise and educate advanced practice providers, residents, or clinical staff as applicable
  • Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
