About The Position

Using established coding principles and procedures, the position involves reviewing, analyzing, and coding diagnostic and/or procedural information from patients' medical records for reimbursement and billing purposes. The role requires accurate abstraction of information from medical records to compile a patient database that supports medical research projects, patient care evaluation, and administrative decision-making related to patient care. The coding function is a primary source for data and information used in healthcare today, promoting provider/patient continuity, accurate database information, and the ability to optimize reimbursement. Additionally, the coding function ensures compliance with established coding guidelines, third-party reimbursement policies, regulations, and accreditation guidelines.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
• Additional specialty coding certification required or five (5) years coding experience.
• Minimum of two (2) years coding experience required.
• Must have a thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, disease processes, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems.

Nice To Haves

• One to two (1-2) years college or additional coursework in Accounting, Business, Healthcare Administration or Medical Record Sciences preferred.
• Specialty coding experience preferred.
