About The Position

The Outpatient Clinician provides clinical assessment and treatment services for individuals and families that present with substance abuse and addictions to drugs or alcohol by increasing access to intensive outpatient services. In collaboration with a treatment team, provide services including but not limited to: crisis intervention and risk assessment/management; treatment planning and on-going assessment; client education; recovery/sobriety education; individual, family, group and collateral therapy and referral and advocacy. Caseloads may include diverse populations with a variety of clinical needs. This position requires ability to problem solve and make decisions in environments of unknown variables and must be willing to work a flexible schedule and on-call (waiting to engage) rotation. The Outpatient Clinician is a positive team player that promotes a culture of inclusion and participation.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or closely related field
  • License as required by Kentucky professional boards and billing sources
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable operating transportation, and proof of current auto insurance
  • Experience providing assessment and treatment of adults with substance abuse and mental health disorders

Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidenced based counseling that provides effective co-occurring treatment of medically necessary mental and behavioral conditions in individuals and families
  • Assess and integrate historical, psychosocial and medical information into a client’s individualized treatment
  • Provide intensive outpatient services along with individual and family therapy when appropriate.
  • Monitor the need for continuation of services and/or change in level of intensity of services
  • Utilize Partners for Change Outcome Management System (PCOMS) in assessments and clinical treatment episodes
  • Deliver services primarily in an outpatient office but may also provide services in other locations if needed to meet the client’s needs.
  • Manage situations involving client risk and provide crisis clinical services that help de-escalate crisis situations and promote stability
  • Manage a caseload that may include diverse populations with a variety of clinical needs
  • Use ASAM criteria effectively in assessment of the needed level of care and provision of treatment
  • Provide substance abuse group treatment as well as intensive outpatient substance abuse group treatment
  • May perform tasks in other residential programs
  • Collaborate with client, family (if appropriate), and treatment team to develop treatment goals
  • Communicate effectively with team members and collateral sources such as DCBS, DOC, etc. as indicated
  • Refer and transfer when clinically indicated
  • Participate in regular meetings with Clinical Coordinator and county team
  • Manage medical records for clients receiving services
  • Secure authorizations for medically necessary clinical services for clients
  • Document to meet medical necessity standards
  • Submit documentation within required timeframes and according to Board policies and procedures
