About The Position

Under direct supervision and working interdependently with physicians, advanced practitioners, and other care team members, provides a broad range of nursing services following established policies and protocols, with a primary focus on infusion and chemotherapies.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Florida, required OR Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program and licensed by FL medical board.
  • Current BLS certification, PALS certification required.
  • Two to four years related experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Demonstrated competence in reacting to and handling emergencies.
  • Able to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact, diplomacy, and discipline.
  • Strong charting/documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains patients’ medical histories and performs physical examinations; documents all findings/information.
  • Obtains medication authorizations for BMT patients.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures as allowed within scope of practice including but not limited to immunizations, wound care, and injections.
  • Performs daily rounds as required and documents patient care orders.
  • Triages and refers patients for further care based on severity of illness and symptoms.
  • Utilizes written guidelines/protocol for clinical decision making and management.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights.
  • Exhibits a high degree of courtesy, tact, and poise when interacting with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Adjusts to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and other operational demands while maintaining quality.
  • Orders, reads, and evaluates laboratory reports and radiology studies.
  • Charts all patient transactions in accordance with policies and procedures; writes orders and records progress notes that will be reviewed and countersigned by supervising physicians.
  • Develops plans of care based on patient assessment ensuring appropriate follow-up in accordance with established nurse practitioner protocols.
  • Accountable to produce correspondence including: accommodation letters, school letters and documentation for physical and occupational therapy.
  • Communicates and works with medical staff to ensure coordinated efforts for the provision of high-quality medical treatment and patient service
  • Collaborates with clinic staff, case management, and authorizations teams in the coordination of admissions and procedures for inpatient/outpatient needs to prevent any treatment related delays
  • Ensures communication between staff & physicians; responsible for arranging appointments & follow-up; serve as a front-line resource to obtain records, test results, & other clinical information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Applies safety principles as identified by established policy.
  • Participates in continuing education to continually improve skills and abilities and stay abreast of current technologies/practices.
  • Ensures compliance with legal issues including but not limited to patient confidentiality and risk management; ensures compliance with JCAHO, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Floats, covers, and provides assistance to department, other clinics, and staff members when needed or requested by leaders.
