About The Position

At Cleveland Clinic Akron General, we have been providing world-class care to the community for over 100 years. In this role, Outpatient Clerks/Techs aid in the delivery of patient care, perform various clerical activities, and assist with patient processing. Caregivers in this position are known for their ability to anticipate and meet the needs of patients and visitors coming to Akron General. The position involves working days from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, performing routine clerk duties such as assisting with registering patients, addressing patient concerns, and coordinating the daily appointment schedule. The role also includes collecting information from patients, processing insurance claims, and ensuring effective patient flow.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent including courses in typing, data entry, business, mathematics, and office procedures.
  • Two years of medical/technical assisting experience or graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
  • Computer experience.
  • Passing score on an alphanumeric data entry test.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with registering patients and addressing patient concerns.
  • Coordinate the daily appointment schedule.
  • Collect information from patients and process insurance claims.
  • Receive incoming calls and assist or direct callers to appropriate personnel.
  • Handle phone calls to and from physician's offices regarding patient information.
  • Receive and collect biological specimens, verifying demographics and test information.
  • Obtain completed lab, x-ray, EKG, and H&P information under the correct patient account number.
  • Obtain blood specimens by various venipuncture and micro collection techniques.
  • Perform vital signs, EKGs, and patient preparation.
  • Transmit, complete order entry, and obtain EKG tracings.
  • Initiate and prepare patient charges or credits through the hospital information system.
  • Maintain accurate cross-reference files for patient orders and fax test results to physician offices.
  • Prepare and complete charts with accuracy.
  • Maintain statistical records regarding the number of patients seen daily.
  • Ensure signing and completion of necessary registration and clinical forms.
