About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a dedicated individual to perform functions associated with patient information processing for ambulatory care visits. This role involves reception, registration, charge reconciliation, appointment scheduling, eRecord task management, In Basket management, and telephone encounter management using electronic medical records and patient access and revenue cycle systems. The position requires a commitment to patient satisfaction and accuracy in processing information to ensure billable services for providers. The individual may also act as a resource for new staff.

Requirements

• High School diploma and 1 year related experience in an administrative office or customer service field required.
• Completion of Vision Care 1, 2, 3 courses required or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

• Medical terminology experience preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to word process documents and enter data into a database preferred.
• Demonstrated skills related to achievement of customer satisfaction preferred.
• Ability to act as a resource to less experienced staff preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients to initiate a positive ambulatory experience and verifies patient identification using two identifiers.
• Collects patient demographic and financial information efficiently and accurately to establish a billable account.
• Schedules new and return visits to ambulatory care and coordinates appointments for ancillary testing or referrals.
• Answers phone calls in a timely and courteous manner, managing incoming clinic calls and routing them appropriately.
• Edits and corrects registration errors and assists in the charge reconciliation process.
• Assesses the urgency of situations and determines appropriate routing for patients, serving as a resource for handling complaints.
• May escort patients into the treatment corridor and collect basic visit documentation and vital signs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
