Outdoor Experiences Manager
About The Position
The Outdoor Experiences Manager oversees and manages all aspects of program delivery for the Berges Family Imagination and Creation Station, a newly built STEM Center at Camp Fiddlecreek in Labadie, Missouri. This position will be responsible for developing an integrated program delivery plan and working to sustain and grow girl participation in all programming delivered at Camp Fiddlecreek. At Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, most of our roles work in a hybrid capacity (in office, remote, and/or in the field). Details will be provided during the interview process. Requirements
- Associate's degree in Parks and Recreation, Outdoor Education, Project Management, a related field or equivalent experience is required.
- One (1) to three (3) years of camp operations, program delivery, facilities and events management, and/or other related experience.
- Red Cross First/CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain such within 6 months of employment.
- Certification in some or all of the following activities may be required (training provided): USA Archery Level 1, Target Sports certification (hatchet throwing, slingshots, air rifle), small craft safety/basic water rescue.
- Valid state driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to our insurance carrier.
- Comprehensive knowledge of camp operations and American Camp Association accreditation process and standards, or willingness to learn.
- Ability to create, develop, and implement camp program and resources.
- Financial knowledge and the ability to manage budgets.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other general office equipment.
- Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers, and to represent the organization in a professional manner.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently, under limited direction, exercising judgment and initiative in making decisions within Council operations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic organization.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends and travel between between Camp and Council locations.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time operating a computer, including navigating websites, software platforms, spreadsheets and both electronic and paper documents.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copier, and computer printer.
- Occasionally positions self to maintain files in file cabinets.
- May need to move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds across office for various needs.
- The ability to observe details at close range and at a distance.
- Is required to drive/ operate an automobile.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement assigned camp program(s), ensuring that program components are consistent with the national curricula and grade level, and that content meets the needs, interests, and preferences of current and prospective camp participants.
- Develop and manage the schedules, programs, and external group facility use of the Berges Family Imagination and Creation Station.
- Maintain camp operations to meet the American Camp Association standards for accreditation and follow GSUSA and GSEM safety and operational guidelines.
- Promote a positive work environment and high staff morale through effective staff communication and staff development initiatives.
- Coordinate scheduling for high-adventure and staffed camp activities and serve as backup support for activity staffed weekends across all three camp locations (Labadie, Pevely, and Troy, MO).
- Assist the Senior Manager, Camping Programs to establish the annual budget and manage day-to-day departmental expenses, reporting and explaining material variances for assigned program areas.
- Ensure overall compliance with any applicable internal policies, guidelines, and funding source regulations.
- Collaborate as necessary with other departments to optimize the success of events and activities.
- Serve as a collaborative team member, working to advance the mission of Girl Scouts.
