About The Position

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Develop outdoor education program for students with disabilities and regular education students pursuant with the goals and philosophy of NSSEO and aligned with Illinois Learning Standards for the purpose of providing outdoor education for NSSEO programs and member districts. Oversee maintenance staff to ensure readiness of all learning environments, including the Teams Course, outdoor activity spaces, at the waterfront, on Oak Savannah hike, the lake, in prairie areas and indoor classrooms. Develop and maintain the SLOEC web page for the purpose of providing timely information to staff, parents, member districts and the community. Develop and maintain the SLOEC budget and long-range planning in accordance with the business manager for the purpose of fiscal responsibility. Develop and maintain usage schedules for NSSEO programs, member districts, and outside agencies for the purpose of program planning and evaluation. Develop community partnerships for the purpose of outreach and facility usage. Implement an NSSEO extended school year program for the purpose of maintenance of student skills. Provide stakeholders with information for decision making including an annual report, attendance data, program evaluations, newsletters, student recognitions and celebrations, etc. Oversee student and staff safety and schedule training support including NVCI, Ukeru, Teams Course, Ice Rescue, lifeguarding and Waterfront safety. Maintain buildings and grounds in compliance with the Illinois Department of Public Health Youth Camp Act for the purpose of health and safety. Provide customized professional development for participants at NSSEO / Member Districts and community partners as requested to meet their learning needs. Provide instructional leadership for the purpose of meeting program goals. Provide communication to governing boards, NSSEO and district programs, parents and community groups on the operation and programs available at SLOEC. Provide outdoor education training to NSSEO and member district staff for the purpose of meeting outdoor education curricular goals. Provide yearly waterfront training to NSSEO and NWSRA staff for the purpose of health and safety. Provide outdoor education training and team course training to NSSEO and member district staff for the purpose of implementing outdoor education programs with integrity and to develop team building. Recommend program development/services for the purpose of enhancing infrastructure/programming supports to meet the changing needs of our diverse learners to be provided at SLOEC. OTHER FUNCTIONS: Assume administrative and developmental responsibilities under the supervision of the NSSEO Superintendent for the planning, operative and evaluation of the programs coordinated. Assume other duties and special projects as assigned. Support NSSEO policy, NSSEO and governing board goals and objectives, and The School Code of Illinois.

Requirements

  • Valid Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative Endorsement and LBS 1 or related Special Education Field
  • Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate
  • Willingness to become a Surface Ice Rescue Technician
  • Willingness to become NVCI and Ukeru certified to support student behavior
  • Experience in outdoor adventure education required
  • Teams course facilitator experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience with special education students
  • Educational leadership ability in overall program planning and implementation
  • Ability to travel to NSSEO and district sites and move about their respective buildings as necessary.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations specific to special education
