The Outcomes Analyst for the Women's Service Line functions as a key member of the Department of Patient Safety and Quality, leveraging comprehensive data analysis to drive measurable improvements in patient safety and quality of care for the maternal health population. Working in close collaboration with the OB (obstetrics) and Maternal Health nursing teams, physicians, and departmental leadership, this role is responsible for identifying trends, measuring performance against national benchmarks, and creating customised reports, dashboards, and graphs. Transforms complex data into actionable insights, support evidence-based practice changes, and audit data for validity and accuracy. As a key resource for the Network's Women's Service in its journey to becoming a Highly Reliable Organisation (HRO), this position will support the leadership team in implementing and sustaining strategies that foster a culture of safety and excellence within the obstetrics and maternal health department. Prior experience working within Maternal Heath Data Analytics is preferred. This includes knowledge of maternal health key metrics and publically reported data such as US News & World Report. Will also be responsible for monitoring inernal dashboards and collaborating with the team to develop quality improvement processes. This position is based in Edison, but will require travel throughout the network.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs and a minimum of two years of relevant data analytics experience.
  • Strong analytical skills, familiar with statistical analysis methodology.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualisation tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, SQL).
  • Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies (e.g., PDSA cycles, Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Familiarity with national patient safety and quality standards, particularly those related to maternal health from organizations like American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and The Joint Commission.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Data Validation & Accuracy: Collects, manages, and analyzes complex clinical data related to maternal and infant health outcomes from various sources. Ensures data is accurate, derived from valid sources, and entered with excellent proof-reading skills. This includes directly assessing and validating the accuracy of data presented in the OB Dashboard and the Maternal Early Obstetric Warning System (MEOWS).
  • Report & Dashboard Development: Develops, designs, and maintains user-friendly dashboards, forms, and reports to track and compile key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Women's Service Line. This includes, but is not limited to: Severe Hypertension (MEOWS) Preeclampsia with Severe Features (MEOWS) Intraamniotic Infections (MEOWS) Nulliparous, Term, Singleton, Vertex (NTSV) Cesarean Birth Rate Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC) rates Rates of obstetric haemorrhage and severe maternal morbidity (SMM) Incidence of perinatal safety events (e.g., birth trauma, neonatal CLABSI) Patient satisfaction scores and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs)
  • Actionable Insights & Interpretation: Translates complex data findings into clear, concise, and compelling reports and presentations for diverse audiences, including frontline staff, unit leadership, and executive committees. Applies knowledge of clinical issues and events to the evaluation, analysis, and interpretation of data.
  • Tool & Procedure Development: Develops and verifies data collection procedures and tools for various programs and projects. Works with internal customers to understand project specifications and ensure tools will meet all data requirements.
  • Clinical Quality Improvement: Collaborates with OB and Maternal Health nursing teams, providers, and leaders to investigate clinical processes, identify areas for improvement, and support the implementation of evidence-based quality improvement initiatives.
  • Patient Safety Monitoring: Monitors patient safety events and near misses across the Women's Service Line, supports root cause analyses (RCAs), and identifies trends to mitigate future risks.
  • Project & Initiative Support: Tracks the progress and impact of quality improvement projects, measuring outcomes to determine effectiveness. Assists in implementing and monitoring patient safety bundles, such as those developed by the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM).
  • High-Reliability Organisation (HRO) Strategy: Assists the Leadership team in developing, implementing, and sustaining Hospital-Level Highly Reliable Organisation (HRO) strategies.
  • Regulatory Reporting & Compliance: Ensures the accurate and timely submission of maternal health data to regulatory bodies and quality collaboratives (e.g., The Joint Commission and state Perinatal Quality Collaboratives). Tracks and monitors compliance with various regulatory metrics, ensuring databases are up-to-date and accurate.
  • Audit & Survey Readiness: Serves as a subject matter expert and resource during regulatory audits or reviews (e.g., The Joint Commission). Assists with tracking compliance and preparing materials as needed.
  • HIPAA & Data Security: Ensures strict confidentiality and protection of all personally identifying data. Guarantees that files, worksheets, patient information, and reports are locked, secured, and inaccessible to unauthorised persons, and that computer access is secured through corporate IT servers.
  • Cross-Functional Technical Collaboration: Serves as a key liaison between the Women's Service Line and technical teams, including the Clinical Quality Intelligence team, Digital Technology Services (DTS), and the Epic Stork team, to ensure data integrity, optimize clinical documentation workflows, and resolve data-related issues.
  • Staff Education & Support: Provides hands-on support and training to staff and managers. Works directly with nurses and providers to explain data trends and assist them in using data from the OB Dashboard, MEOWS, and other sources to inform daily practice.
  • Multidisciplinary Team Involvement: Participates in and provides data support for multidisciplinary quality committees, peer review, and case reviews.
  • Departmental Projects: Supports the Department of Patient Safety and Quality by developing and editing presentation materials and working on other projects and assignments as required to meet departmental needs.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
