Description of the Position The OSU Brewery Internship is only open to students currently enrolled in the Fermentation Science program at Oregon State University. Any applications received from individuals not currently enrolled in this program will not be considered. The OSU Brewery Intern is responsible for performing all tasks related to brewery work and being part of a busy McMenamins property. That means the ideal candidate is a diligent worker with strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to be flexible and patient when dealing with front of house staff and customers. This position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, filling and delivering property keg orders, cleaning kegs, cleaning the brewery, general cleaning, and kegging and canning beer. The Brewery intern will also be required to gain aptitude in cellar tasks like monitoring fermentation, tank cleaning and CIP, dry-hopping, cropping yeast, carbonating beer, and other critical beer-related jobs. Other duties include the completion of brewery records in a clear and organized fashion, monitoring supplies used in the brewing process, notifying brewery management when supplies are needed, and other tasks as required. This intern position must be able to work safely and be able to complete tasks with or without supervision. The Assistant Brewer must develop a strong understanding of the elements that affect the production of beer such as climate control, cleanliness, sanitation, and proper storage and handling of hazardous chemicals and gases. This position is also expected to keep tools and equipment functional and well maintained, and to be able to use any devices implemented in the production of beer properly. The Brewery intern must function as a brewery representative to co-workers and the general public and work effectively as a member of a team, as well as, independently. Each employee will be expected to perform their job in a safe manner and report any safety concerns to management.
