The Department of Workplace Standards, Division of Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Education & Training, seeks an OSH Industrial Hygiene Consultant I in the Health and Consultation Branch. This position will provide beginning-level assistance to employers in recognizing and controlling potential safety hazards in the workplace.

This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete trainings, sign acknowledgments, follow all policies, and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends.

Requirements

• EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, chemistry, physics, engineering, environmental health, biology, environmental health technology, engineering technology or a related field. The above degree must include the completion of at least 12 semester hours in chemistry.
• EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
• Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
• Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis or professional experience in occupational safety and health or a related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year-basis.
• SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Responsibilities

• Assists Industrial Hygiene Consultants in conducting health consultative surveys to develop the ability to recognize and evaluate workers' exposure to hazardous environments.
• Assists Industrial Hygiene Consultants in writing detailed technical reports regarding corrective actions for these surveys.
• Attends professional training courses to develop competency in the field of industrial hygiene.
• Assists in the calibration of industrial hygiene instrumentation to develop competency in the calibration, operation and maintenance of the equipment.
• Assists in the development of industrial hygiene training sessions to develop knowledge in the latest information and techniques related to industrial hygiene.
• Conducts research in industrial hygiene topics to assist in answering questions regarding industrial hygiene related standards and interpretations.
