About The Position

​​The Office of State Guardian Staff Attorney II advises guardianship staff on the legal implications of actions, consents, and contractual agreements undertaken by OSG on behalf of its wards. Key responsibilities include preparing and reviewing court documents, legal paperwork and estate cases, appearing in court on behalf of OSG and monitoring litigation involving OSG wards.

Requirements

  • Requires graduation from a recognized law school.
  • Requires possession of a valid license to practice law in Illinois.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties.
  • Requires successful completion and passing of background check and fingerprinting.
  • Requires successful passing of National Guardianship Exam within 12 months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers two (2) years of experience with relevant administrative, statutory, and case law references at administrative, trial, and appellate levels.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience interpreting statutes, rules, or regulations and applying them to solve legal or administrative issues.
  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience interacting with clients, legal professionals, or judicial stakeholders in a professional setting.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience working with Adult Guardianship law and interpretation.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience in legal estate and tax matters.

Responsibilities

  • Advises guardianship staff on the legal implications of actions, consents, and contractual agreements undertaken by OSG on behalf of its wards.
  • Prepares and reviews court documents and legal paperwork
  • Reviews on a regular basis all existing estate cases, and with the OSG staff, develops plans for legal work to manage the estates
  • Notifies supervisor of any unusual, controversial or serious matters, issues or problems
  • Successfully completes the Registered Guardian Exam of the National Guardianship foundation
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.
