About The Position

As a professional level staff member in training, the Graduate Assistant shall have primary accountability for student personnel administration for the teams of students they are assigned. This will include coordination of all aspects of hiring, payroll, performance assessment, budget, records, and employee training and development under the direction of the Associate Director. This position will also manage the daily operations of the Hammond Hall Campus Center in collaboration with the Associate Director.

Requirements

  • Candidate MUST be a registered Graduate Student at Fitchburg State University.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; strong customer service orientation; ability to interact well with the diverse segments of the Fitchburg State University community.
  • The successful candidate will be a mature, responsible, independent thinker, who demonstrates flexibility and good problem solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates with previous event programming of experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience working with college age students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with aspects of the Hammond Campus center including, but not limited to, hours of operation, work orders, inventory, student employees, information desk, and building managers.
  • Assists with recruiting, selecting, and training all student employment including building managers.
  • Facilitate training and testing of employees to assure appropriate competency levels are reached within four weeks of the start of the student's employment.
  • Provides support for the professional staff that have oversight of the Game Room, Building Managers, and Event Student Services.
  • Leads the development of the monthly in-service program for the Campus Center employees
  • Works collaboratively with Events and Capital Planning & Maintenance as it pertains to events held in the Campus Center.
  • Manages all term performance assessments and handles performance problems with student employees, assuring the appropriate procedures are followed and appropriate documentation is kept.
  • Attend all building manager meetings.
  • Attend all area meetings of their student teams and coach the managing lead in leading those meetings.
  • Manages employee recognition programs with the Building Managers and jointly manage and present departmental recognition programs.
  • Shall, in rotation with the other GA, directly supervise the operations for evening and weekend programs as assigned. (1-2 nights a week on average).
