About The Position

Operates Chevron's fleet of marine vessels which transport Crude Oil, Liquefied Natural Gas, refined product and chemicals. Ensures that operations follow company, industry, and regulatory/legal guidelines, are performed safely, and protect the environment. (The requirements for this job are, to a significant degree, determined by certification, training, and experience. See Responsibilities for more information.) Chevron is accepting online applications for the Ordinary Seaman (OS) Trainee position located in San Ramon, California through April 3rd, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time). The OS Trainee is expected to seek out opportunities for growth and development aboard the vessel and to be proactive in their approach to operations. The OS Trainee will learn and perform the duties and responsibilities of the OS in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations. OS Trainee will focus on safety issues related to assigned deck tasks.

Requirements

  • Full-time Student at San Jacinto College.
  • Eligible for USCG Issued License upon graduation.
  • Valid Merchant Mariner Credential with OS Endorsement upon commencement of the assignment.
  • VPDSD Training (Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties).
  • Basic Safety Training.
  • Basic Tanker Familiarization Training.
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Valid Passport.
  • Valid STCW Medical Certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Performs manual tasks in the Deck Departments
  • Wipes up excess oils and greases and otherwise cleans machinery, bilges, grating, decks, bulkheads and vessel’s hull.
  • Cleans, chips, scales, washes paint, paints, polishes and performs other maintenance work as directed by the ship’s officers.
  • Assists in the loading, unloading, stowing and inventory of stores, materials and equipment’s.
  • As a member of the deck, assists in handling docking and mooring lines and wires, connecting and disconnecting cargo hoses.
  • Performs general housekeeping work in deck and storage areas.
  • Active and positive participant in monthly safety meeting.
  • Points out unsafe acts or conditions to everyone on board.
  • Stops work if unsafe conditions or practices are uncovered.
  • Able to participate in an Emergency Response team.
  • Effective in relating to others
  • Willing to assist others.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Maintains an appropriate demeanor and appearance.
