Department: Wheelersburg Family Health Center Shift/schedule: Full Time (36 hrs/wk), Orthopedics GENERAL SUMMARY Works under the supervision of the physician and the Office Manager. The Orthopedic Technologist's primary job responsibility is to provide patient care under the direction of a physician or licensed health care provider. QUALIFICATIONS Education: • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required • Working knowledge of medical terminology required Licensure: • BLS required within 90 days of hire • Registered Orthopedic Technologist (ROT) required Experience: • Two years of experience preferred Interpersonal Skills: • Interact and communicate effectively with patients, staff, gather and exchange patient information with staff and physicians. Ability to manage interactions with difficult people. Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation. Essential Technical/Motor Skills: • Ability to use hands for repetitive simple grasping and fine manipulation for typing, answering the phone, copying, injections, phlebotomies and use of other office equipment. Essential Physical Requirements: • The physical demand level for this position is medium. Occasionally may lift up to 100 pounds. Stands and/or walks two to six hours per day. Sits two to six hours per day. Occasional bending, squatting, and reaching required. Essential Mental Requirements: • Attention to detail, ability to aggregate multiple sources of data. Essential Sensory Requirements: • Good vision, ability to hear and speak clearly is a requirement. Exposure to Hazards: • Exposure to infectious diseases, dust and chemicals and body fluids. Other: • Working knowledge of computer software (i.e. Word, Excel, Meditech, etc.). JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 1. Performs a variety of orthopedic related activities including applying and removing dressings, removing sutures/staples, applying and removing casts and splints. 2. Assists provider in back-office duties including rooming patients, taking vital signs and patient history, and assisting with minor procedures. 3. Adheres to prescription refill protocol. 4. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information. 5. Performs basic triage per specific office protocol procedures. 6. Recognizes and responds appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols. 7. Maintains work area, exam rooms, supplies, medications and immunizations. 8. Performs associated clerical tasks including scheduling, filing, recalls, etc. 9. Maintains professional appearance and personal conduct at all times. 10. Works as a team member within the orthopedics department and all other departments. 11. Documents work processes as required. 12. Performs other duties as assigned.
