About The Position

This position assists the orthopedic physician and participates in the patient care plan, which includes casting, splinting, assisting in the operating room, and post-operative care regimen. The technician serves as the first assist to physicians in the operating room for joint reconstruction, sports medicine, and general/trauma orthopedic surgery. Additionally, the role involves assisting podiatrists in surgery and working in the podiatry clinic with post-operative care. The technician is also responsible for handling weekend and trauma calls with orthopedic surgeons. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education (GED)
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification
  • ORTHO-Orthopedic Technician certification OR Graduate of an orthopedic technician college OR Military training as an orthopedic technician
  • 2 years of recent relevant experience
  • Knowledge of basic surgical anatomy and physiology
  • Knowledge of what constitutes a medical emergency requiring a physician’s attention
  • Knowledge of scope of practice of an orthopedic technician
  • Knowledge of application, removal, and adjustment of casts and splints
  • Knowledge of application of soft goods, both custom, and non-custom
  • Knowledge of all aspects of surgery assisting and instrumentation in orthopedic surgery cases
  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in English
  • Well-developed phone and customer service skills
  • Able to deal effectively with challenging customer service interactions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and business information
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and perform work accurately
  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work
  • Ability to complete multiple projects and manage shifting priorities with frequent interruptions
  • Skilled in the operations of computers and their applications, along with other office equipment
  • Ability to recognize post operative complications and problems with casts and respond appropriately
