About The Position

As an Ortho Tech, you'll assist orthopedic specialists with casts, splints, and braces, crucial for patient recovery and comfort. Medical Assistant responsibilities include providing a basic level of patient care and treatment. Assists with obtaining vital signs, documents chief complaint, obtains patient history, and provides assistance to physicians, residents and/or licensed nursing personnel. Alerts physician of problems/concerns/abnormalities. Orthopedic Technician responsibilities include performs casting, splinting, traction application and various soft good applications. Works with providers, residents, nurse practitioners, and nurses to coordinate ongoing orthopedic needs. Assists providers with wound care. To succeed, you need strong orthopedic anatomy knowledge, aseptic techniques, and device application skills. Maintains hospital standards of zero tolerance for mislabeled specimens and collects laboratory specimens according to hospital protocol. Assists the nurse/physician during examinations, treatments and procedures as requested. Retrieves necessary equipment and supplies. Performs follow-up actions as directed. Documents clinically relevant findings in the patient's record according to hospital protocols and clinical protocols. Monitors and records patient vital signs, weight, positioning, ADL's I&O activity and blood glucose readings per RN instructions, hospital protocols, and standards of care.

Requirements

  • High School / GED
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or completion of an U.S. Armed Forces medical services training program or completion of an U.S. Armed Forces medical services training program
  • Candidates who completed a program prior to February 2, 2000 can satisfy the minimum education requirements by providing evidence of direct supervision by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours to satisfy the minimum education requirements
  • As related to Orthopedic Tech, six months related experience
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - CPR
  • Strong orthopedic anatomy knowledge
  • Aseptic techniques
  • Device application skills

Nice To Haves

  • Previous MA experience
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
  • Previous experience in designated specialty
  • Bilingual skills
