About The Position

The Munson Orthopedic Institute is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) that will deliver high quality care in both the ambulatory and OR setting. In this position, you will work with fellowship trained Munson Orthopedic surgeons to care for patients in the ambulatory and inpatient setting and first assist with surgeries. You will be part of a robust multi-subspecialty team of surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses and support staff. This is a full-time position. There are current needs within the practice for both a near one-to-one specialized elective-based practice role as well as a cross over role between elective practices and orthopedic trauma surgery.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing OR a Masters in Physician Assistant studies
  • State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required

  • Orthopedic experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work within a robust multi-subspecialty team of surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses and support staff to promote, support and provide management of orthopedic medical care to patients.
  • Evaluates and reviews the plan of care at regularly scheduled office visits utilizing sound clinical judgment based on assessment of physical, psychological, emotional, societal and environmental needs of the clients.
  • Manages patient care in the ambulatory and inpatient settings, including new patient visits in the ambulatory setting and inpatient consultations, performing comprehensive history and physical examinations, ordering appropriate lab and radiographic studies, interpreting lab and x-ray results, performing in-office procedures, managing orthopedic medications, making treatment decisions, and determining appropriate follow up.
  • First assists the orthopedic surgeon in the operating room.
  • Completes appropriate documentation of all evaluations, care, and services rendered in the electronic medical record in order to accurately reflect services in the patient record and to ensure appropriateness of billing.
  • Communicates with referring or primary care physicians, advanced practice providers, inpatient consulting providers regarding patient care and treatment.
  • Observes the Munson Healthcare Advance Practice Provider prescriptive authority guidelines.
  • Maintains knowledge of current medical trends and ongoing professional development in pertinent medical fields.
  • Meets department productivity requirements.
  • Recognizes and understands the need for full daily schedules.
  • Independently monitors own daily appointment schedule and works in conjunction with other staff members to fill open appointment times.
  • Call responsibilities are variable and depend upon the role within the group. Group call functions as an after-hours and weekend call line for established patients. This does not require activation to go into the hospital- it can be managed remotely. This call is shared amongst the elective surgeons and APPs This is paid call. For APPs that work in the trauma APP pool, they take layered call for the trauma surgeon and first assist call at night and on weekends. This is paid call.
