About The Position

This position is located in the Orthopedic Section which is aligned under Surgical Care ICC. The orthopedic surgeon is responsible for performing basic orthopedic procedures such as arthroscopies, total hip and total knee arthroplasties, and carpal tunnel surgeries. Clinic duties consist of evaluating and treating patients with orthopedic disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The incumbent will also respond to patient telephone calls, inform patients of test/lab results, renew medication prescriptions, and provide telephone or e-mail advice to other providers. Administrative duties may also be required. The orthopedic surgeon is expected to participate in performance improvement activities, disaster preparedness, and other responsibilities assigned by the Associate Chief of Staff - Surgical Care ICC.

Requirements

  • United States Citizenship.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States.
  • Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice To Haves

  • Board certification for faculty status in academic training programs.
  • Experience in orthopedic surgery.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic orthopedic procedures including arthroscopies, total hip and total knee arthroplasties, and carpal tunnel surgeries.
  • Evaluate and treat patients with orthopedic disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Respond to patient telephone calls and inform patients of test/lab results.
  • Renew medication prescriptions and provide telephone or e-mail advice to other providers.
  • Enter accurate, complete, and timely progress notes in the patient's electronic record.
  • Maintain and calibrate specialized equipment used in patient assessment and care.
  • Adhere to safety, health, and infection control standards.
  • Assist in orientation of new staff and provide patient and family education.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and disaster preparedness.
