About The Position

Bronson Orthopedic Specialists is seeking a BE/BC orthopedic surgeon to join their established practice, which is part of a multi-hospital healthcare system located in southwest Michigan. The Practice currently employs 4 surgeons and 5 physician assistants who provide care to patients in the community hospital, located in Battle Creek. This full time surgeon candidate will be based in the Battle Creek community, and will have clinic and operative time at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. The new surgeon could anticipate a very busy practice in a relatively short amount of time. This is an employed position with a hospital-based orthopedic practice with three locations and staff privileges at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, a 228-bed, all-private room community hospital providing a full range of outpatient and inpatient acute care including robotic surgery, world-class diagnostics, and rehabilitation services. The range of services provided by Bronson Orthopedic Specialists include diagnostic and advanced surgical treatment options for the following: Hip, Hip Joint Replacement, Hip Joint Revision, Hip Resurfacing, Knee, Knee Joint Replacement, Knee Joint Revision, Orthopedic Surgery, Orthopedic Trauma, Robotic-assisted Knee Joint Replacement, Shoulder, Shoulder Joint Replacement, Sports Medicine. As part of the total joint replacement program at Bronson, all patients are optimized for surgery, coordinated by our team of orthopedic nurse navigators. The program includes preoperative patient education and individualized post-operative physical therapy.

Requirements

  • Medical degree and 2 years of direct or intern experience required.
  • Current Medical License in the state of Michigan.
  • Current DEA and DPS Certificate of Registration.
  • Must maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper telephone etiquette.
  • Ability to perform in a tactful and professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnosing illnesses and prescribing treatment for patients suffering from disease or illness.
  • Examining patients and obtaining medical histories.
  • Ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Counseling patients regarding preventive healthcare, hygiene, and diet.
  • Providing medical patient care by interviewing, examining, and treating clinical patients.
  • Educating patients on wellness, prevention, and early detection.
  • Determining required referrals based on examination and patient needs.
  • Determining level of urgency of follow-up, referral/consultation appointments.
  • Exercising final medical judgment in all issues of health care.
  • Prescribing medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients.
  • Ordering studies, tests, and ancillary services.
  • Documenting all services in patient medical records.
  • Reviewing long-term cases that require ongoing medical attention.
  • Consulting with Medical Director and other professionals on staff regarding patient care.
  • Participating in process improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs.
  • Overseeing mid-level medical staff and nursing clinical staff as assigned.
  • Assisting in the resolution of complaints, requests, and inquiries from patients.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all patient information according to federal guidelines.
  • Demonstrating commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
