About The Position

The Orthopedic Casting Technician is responsible for supporting clinicians and nursing personnel with orthopedic casting procedures. The technician will assist in the delivery of patient care services, primarily with applying and removing cases or splints, wound care and dressing changes. The technician is expected to keep abreast of all new casting techniques, must be familiar with the properties of pertinent materials and must be skilled in the use of appropriate equipment. This position will travel to various locations in the Sugar Land area of Houston, TX.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year of related experience preferred
  • A valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification, Casting Technician Certification or Licensed Orthotic Assistant Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists clinician and nursing personnel with orthopedic casting procedures to include the application and removal of a variety of casts and splints.
  • Assists with routine examination and treatment procedures to include removing cast, cleaning wounds and applying dressings.
  • Provides continuity of post-op care casting, splinting and bracing; documents all treatments in patient medical records.
  • Assists clinician with medication, medical supplies/equipment during minor office/clinic procedures involving incisions, excisions, sutures, etc.
  • Maintains appropriate par level of supplies, medication and instruments, placing orders in timely fashion.
  • Maintains exam rooms and cast room fully stocked and ensures that the rooms are cleaned after each patient.
  • Responsible for maintaining coding procedures for modalities and supplies utilized to include physical labor cost for application, assessment and fitting, in accordance to HCFA CPT Codes and descriptions and charge master codes.
  • Facilitates patient flow and assist physical and nursing personnel with coordination of patient care.
