Orthopaedics Physician Assistant JOB OVERVIEW • Job Title: Orthopaedics Physician Assistant • Job Type: Permanent – Full-Time • Location: Mount Airy, NC • Service Setting: Orthopaedic outpatient clinic and surgical services • Schedule: Flexible 4.5-day workweek • On-Call Expectations: 1:3 call schedule with shared first call responsibilities • Start Date: Negotiable PATIENT POPULATION & SCOPE • Patient Demographics: Adults and geriatrics with musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions • Average Daily Volume / Census: Varies by clinic and surgical caseload • Admissions & Rounding: Included as needed for surgical patients • Consults & Follow-Ups: Yes • Case Mix/Clinical Focus Areas: General orthopaedics, surgical assist, fracture care, joint replacement, sports medicine FACILITY & TEAM DETAILS • EMR System: Epic • Specialty Backup: Full hospital services, orthopaedic surgeons, anesthesia support • Support Staff: Collaborative team including orthopaedic surgeons, APPs, nurses, and OR staff • Leadership & Reporting Structure: Reports to supervising orthopedic surgeon and practice leadership • Reason for Opening: Practice growth and expansion of orthopaedic services CREDENTIALING & COMPLIANCE • Board Requirements: NCCPA certification required • DEA & Certifications: Active DEA, BLS/ACLS required • Credentialing Timeline: 60–90 days COMPENSATION & BENEFITS • Base Salary: $125K Annually • Incentive Bonus Structure: $25K Sign-on Bonus, $250 per 24h On Call Compensation, up to $30,400 Additional Call incentives • Relocation Assistance: Provided • Annual CME Allowance • PTO & Holidays • Medical, Dental, Vision • Retirement plan • Life & Disability coverage • Malpractice insurance with tail coverage provided REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS • Board Status: NCCPA-certified Physician Assistant • State License Required: Active NC License or Eligibility to Apply • Certifications: BLS and ACLS required • Experience: Minimum 1–2 years orthopaedic or surgical experience preferred • Additional Requirements: Surgical assist competency, team-based care experience, EMR proficiency DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • Provide clinical evaluation, diagnosis, and management of orthopaedic patients • Assist in surgical procedures including joint replacement, fracture fixation, and arthroscopy • Participate in shared call schedule with other APPs • Conduct post-operative care, follow-up visits, and patient education • Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and ancillary staff for coordinated patient care • Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with hospital standards COMMUNITY & LOCATION HIGHLIGHTS • About the Area: Mount Airy is a scenic foothill community known for its charm, affordability, and welcoming atmosphere • Local Attractions: Outdoor recreation including hiking, biking, kayaking, and nearby vineyards • School System: Access to quality public schools and community colleges • Housing: Affordable housing with safe neighborhoods and short commutes • Demographic & Professional Profile: Family-friendly community with opportunities for healthcare professionals • Nearby Cities: 40 minutes from Winston-Salem, 1 hour from Greensboro, 2 hours from Charlotte, 2.5 hours from Raleigh and Asheville • Nearest Airport: Piedmont Triad International Airport (Greensboro, NC) • Distance from Airport: Approximately 1 hour by car
