About The Position

The Orthopaedic Value-Based Health Care Fellow will support faculty in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at the University of Texas at Austin. This fellowship focuses on research related to value-based care models, patient-reported outcomes, and the psychosocial aspects of musculoskeletal illness. The position is designed for medical students and offers a unique opportunity to engage in impactful research while developing skills in data analysis and patient engagement.

Requirements

  • Must be accepted to or enrolled in medical school at the time of application.

  • Organizational skills and a basic understanding of statistics.

  • Experience in carrying out research projects through publication.
  • Completion of core clinical clerkships (e.g., current third-year medical student).

Responsibilities

  • Support faculty on research projects related to value-based care models.
  • Develop research protocols and manage Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications.
  • Recruit patients and collect data in the Musculoskeletal Institute's Lower Extremity Integrated Practice Unit (IPU).
  • Involve in quality improvement projects related to patient-reported outcome collection and follow-up.
  • Serve as the patient-reported outcome measure facilitator.
  • Attend business strategy and management meetings as appropriate.
  • Prepare abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts for publication to disseminate research results.
  • Conduct literature reviews, data entry, and analysis as needed.
  • Supervise undergraduate and medical student research volunteers in patient recruitment and data collection.

Benefits
