About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina Department Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is hiring for a n Advanced Practice Provider for our foot and ankle orthopaedic division in an outpatient setting. The A PP will be responsible for travelling to different MUSC ambulatory clinics to support the foot and ankle orthopaedic division. The APP will join a busy and thriving Orthoapedic Surgery practice of two foot an ankle surgeon s , two podiatrists , and an APP.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.
  • Physician Assistant or APRN License Type/Certification : AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP): Adult pts (13 years to death), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting. FNP (Family NP ): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.
  • All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date: Basic Life Support ( BLS). If applicable, DHEC and DEA license a pplications mus t be s tarted prior to first day.
  • Graduation from an approved Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies.
  • Must be licensed in the state of South Carolina, and certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required

Nice To Haves

  • Two years as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in Orthopaedic Surgery or another surgical subspecialty preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to patients through the following activities: Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
  • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
  • Performs the following therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief Suture lacerations/wounds; suture/staple removal Placement/removal of surgical drains and tubes Incision and drainage of abscesses Administration of IV medications IM/SC injections Administration of local anesthetic Ordering and initiation of peripheral venous access Obtain body fluids for testing via venipuncture, arterial access, aspiration of seroma/hematoma, urinary catheter. Perform wound management (debridement and closure, dressing take-down and application) Prescribe medical devices. Splinting/casting Fracture/joint reduction Joint injection/aspiration
  • Initiates referrals to other health care provide r s, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician.
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
  • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members
  • APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/ CMEs, etc. as r equired by applicable policies and state law
  • The APP will be responsible for travelling to differen t MUSC ambulatory clinics to support the ir assigned physicians
