The System Orthopedic Program Coordinator is responsible for the oversight of clinical program performance, compliance, and reporting for UVA Community Health's (UVA CH) elective total joint and spine certification-eligible programs. The System Orthopedic Program Coordinator serves as a clinical resource within the organization to facilitate interprofessional collaboration and promote program objectives. Responsible for program outcome deliverables associated with quality, safety, access, patient experience, operational, and financial measures. Provides formal and informal program education for providers and team members. Collaborates with program medical director(s), clinical nurse navigators, rehab services, and nursing staff across the system to facilitate patient care and health management across the care continuum. Collects and manages clinical, financial, quality, and disease specific related care data.

  • Serves as a liaison to staff, physicians, and orthopedic services regionally.
  • Leads and evaluates relevant orthopedic programs and serves as a resource to nursing, health management specialist, cardiac rehabilitation team, and physicians.
  • Acts as a change agent in areas of clinical practice to achieve program goals and objectives.
  • Organizes and facilitates orthopedic program meetings across UVA CH.
  • Evaluates interdisciplinary care processes to ensure consistency in the standards of care and practice throughout the care continuum.
  • Assists with the development and revision of protocols, standards and educational materials to ensure that they are current and meet the accepted national standards of care practice.
  • Participates in, and provides coaching and education for, program care processes.
  • Utilizes/complies databases specific to the desired patient population and relevant to resource utilization, practice patterns, patient processes and outcomes.
  • Compiles data to establish profile for state and national comparison, and goal setting, to improve clinical outcomes and meet certification and regulatory requirements.
  • Supports and fosters evidence-based practice.
  • Assess educational needs of the program eligible population and develops educational materials/tools to facilitate learning.
  • Manages data and ensures compliance with data entry and analysis for participating databases.
  • Works with team members to develop or improve processes to assure a remarkable patient experience.
  • Creates and maintains a healthy work environment that results in improved patient outcomes, retention, and organizational excellence.
  • Collaborates with physicians to develop or improve processes surrounding care of patients.
  • Works in partnership with leaders to create, support, and maintain a culture of professional accountability.
  • Understands the value of innovation and quality improvement.
  • Improves processes and practices by identifying inefficiencies and redundancies.
  • Collects, analyzes and displays qualitative and quantitative data for purposes of identifying and understanding opportunities for improvement.

  • Assures that team members provide care that is consistent with Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements.
  • Consistently communicates in an efficient and effective manner appropriate to target audience through professionally developed interpersonal skills and utilizes clear oral and/or written communication tools as indicated

  • Facilitates program-specific and performance improvement-focused interdisciplinary meetings as appropriate.

  • Demonstrates core knowledge of biomedical and clinical sciences and the application of this knowledge to patient care.
  • Meets and maintains required certifications and licenses.

  • Remain current on healthcare trends and advances.
  • Develops and implements plan for self-development and succession planning.
  • The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent/relevant clinical experience in acute care setting required.
  • Current RN licensure in applicable state required.
  • Strong grasp of data analytics including the ability to abstract, analyze data, and utilize data to drive performance improvement projects.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher preferred; required within 2 years of hire.
  • Experience in orthopedic nursing strongly preferred.
