About The Position

We are seeking an Orion Orbital Arc Weld Spacecraft Technician, Senior to work at Kennedy Space Center, FL. Job Summary: Technicians operate and maintain systems and equipment used in the developing, fabricating, testing, producing, assembling, and sustaining the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) used to transport astronauts to interplanetary destinations beyond low Earth orbit such as the Moon and Mars. Technicians in this occupational family may have a wide breadth of knowledge in various spacecraft systems and/or a specific depth of knowledge in a craft, system, or subsystem. Excludes quality assurance inspectors and material handlers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, or equivalent experience/combined education, with additional specialized technical training equivalent to a technical Associate degree and/or demonstrated ability to perform assigned technical/para-engineering tasks and 5 years or more of experience.
  • Vocational/military training 2+ years or technical field experience.

Responsibilities

  • Experience with AWS D17.1 and or similar fusion welding or orbital tube welding specifications.
  • Experience with various thin wall tubing alloys (CRES, Inconel, Titanium)
  • Ability to setup, adjust, and operate manual tube bending equipment.
  • Ability to setup, adjust, and operate tube fabrication equipment such as manual tube cutters, tube facers, deburring tools, etc.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blue prints, schematics, 3D drawings, engineering documents, work authorization documents and other written or verbal instructions.
  • Capable of using precision tools to accurately measure tight tolerances (calipers, height gauge, scales, etc.)
  • Performs alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed; prepares prescribed adjustments and solutions.
  • Constructs, assembles, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, repairs and maintains welding equipment as required to satisfy weld shop, specification, and program requirements.
  • Performs a range of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, when constructing and assembling spacecraft and associated ground support equipment.
  • Carry out corrosion control treatments on metal and other corrosive alloys.
  • Laying out, measuring, cutting, bending, forming, shaping, fitting, assembling, and installing sheet metal articles/peelable shims.
  • Ability to use standard mechanical tools, fabrication shop equipment (band saw, chop saw, grinders, drills, etc.)
  • Complete, update and maintain all required production orders, documentation, reports, etc., manually or in Manufacturing Execution Systems.
  • Make recommendations to improve work quality, efficiencies, and productivity.
