Required Qualifications Current UW-Superior student in good academic standing with a semester GPA of 2.5 and cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above Ability to work summer and fall 2026, the last 1-1.5 weeks of winter break leading up to winter WoW 2027, as well as spring 2027 at a minimum (longer preferred). Previous experience in a leader position such as, but not limited to: Orientation Group Leader, SOAR or WoW Team Leader, Peer Mentor, etc. Have a positive attitude, enthusiasm and a passion for and general knowledge of UW-Superior Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication, and peer to peer leadership skills and the potential/willingness to further develop these skills Evidence of excellent organizational skills Ability to respond thoughtfully and rationally to diverse situations Willing to work with a diverse group of people and empathize with first-year and transfer student needs Must be comfortable presenting in front of large groups of students, staff, faculty and parents/family Ability to work autonomously and be self-motivated Ability and willingness to adjust to changing situations Experience working with basic desktop publishing (Word, Excel, etc.) Conditions of employment May not enroll in summer classes that occur during the day Must maintain minimum semester GPA of 2.5 or higher per semester employed as an Orientation Student Manager Learning Outcomes As a result of working in this position, the Orientation Student Manager will meet institutional student learning outcomes Communication A & C, and Individual and Social Responsibility C. Students will apply modes, styles, and conventions of communication appropriate to the students’ work and their audience. RESPONSIBILITIES The two Orientation Student Managers work in conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Students and Dean of Student’s Case Manager to accomplish the following: General Planning & Programming Responsibilities: Set professional and program goals for academic year Assist Assistant Dean of Students as the lead in development and implementation of programs Assist in monitoring the orientation budget and spending Coordinate assessment of orientation programs as deemed necessary Participate in evaluation process twice per year (after 1st semester and end of 2nd semester) Facilitate/provide leadership during WoW (fall and winter) as well as coordinate Labor Day and MLK events as necessary Assist with the Yellowjacket Pantry and Free Store: office hours, stocking, donation gathering, and tracking. Orientation: Assist Assistant Dean of Students as the lead in development and implementation of Weekend of Welcome programs (fall and spring semesters) and Parent & Family programs/resources: Reserve and confirm all programming spaces for WoW programs Contacting/confirming presenters and entertainers for WoW programs Oversight of all Entertainment Contracts, COIs, and Purchase Orders pertaining to WoW programming Manage WoW registrations and communications using PeopleSoft and/or current CRM Facilitate Fall and Winter WoW sessions as needed Create periodic reports regarding WoW registrations and petitions Coordinate Move-In Crew and Hospitality Tables in conjunction with Admissions, Residence Life and other campus constituents for fall and spring semesters Serve as a liaison to other organizations and offices involved with orientation/WoW Coordinate assessment of WoW programs and other programs as deemed necessary Parent & Family Programs/Resources: Research parent and family programs and best practices for working with parents and families Create, update, and order parent and family resources (handouts, pamphlets, brochures, etc.) Review and provide updates for the Parent & Family webpage and Parent & Family Portal Serve as the main point for outreach to parents and family (i.e. newsletters, emails, etc.) Recruitment, Training and Supervision Responsibilities: Assist Assistant Dean of Students as lead in development and implementation of student staff hiring/selection process Collaborate with fellow Orientation Student Manager to design student staff training sessions and coordinate and confirm space and presenters Coordinate portions of training with Res Life Co-supervise up to 15-20 Team Leaders for WoW programming in the fall and 4-6 Team Leaders for Winter WoW programming Publicity & Marketing Responsibilities: Create publicity materials, application process and interview process/questions for Team Leader selection Work with University Relations to develop, order, and disseminate new student mailings Oversee departmental FB page - post 3-4 times weekly Update Orientation program tri-fold board for Preview Days and SOAR events Support/Administrative Responsibilities: Work with internal databases Provide motivation to Team Leaders during WoW Provide excellent customer service to students, families and members of the UW-Superior community Assist with assessment of WoW/orientation programs and Student Learning Outcomes Other duties as assigned Food Pantry/ Free Store: Serve students who visit Yellowjacket Pantry Assist in the ordering/restocking of pantry goods Data entry of pantry data Communicate and coordinate donation drives Assist with creating fliers and other marketing needs Professional Development: Complete Professional Development activities and tasks as assigned REQUIRED TRAINING & EVENTS Attendance at all training sessions and all orientation activities are a requirement for this position. No exceptions will be made. Meeting with Assistant Dean of Students and DOS Case Manager: ASAP 20 hours of training Orientation Student Manager Group Training: Arranged after hire Preview Days (Tabling Portion) – unless conflicts with class (TBD) SOAR Events (Spring/Summer TBD) Work 20-25 hours/week over summer and also winter break Fall WoW Team Leader Training: Tentatively August 21 & 24, 2026 Fall WoW Events: August 29- September 1, 2026 Winter Team Leader Training: TBD, Tentatively Jan. 15 and 17, 2027 Winter WoW and Weekend Activities: TBD, Tentatively Jan. 17- 19, 2027 REGULAR TIME COMMITMENTS: Weekly Central Staff Meetings Bi-weekly 1:1 with Supervisor Office Hours/Pantry Hours (8-10 hours per week during semesters, 20-25 hrs/week during summer and winter breaks) Flexibility during holidays/breaks will be considered COMPENSATION: The Orientation Student Manager position is a year-round position. Start date will be negotiated at the time of hire. NOTICE OF DISMISSAL PROCEDURES The Dean of Students Office Orientation program will not dismiss an employee without proper notification. Employees will have verbal and written warnings if their job performance does not meet expectations. Probationary periods will occur if necessary. An employee may be terminated if the individual performs an infraction of highest severity (including but not limited to: illegal activity, University policy violation, etc.) or the employee has failed to improve after notification of unsatisfactory job performance. The Assistant Dean of Students will review work history and a record of discipline in a final meeting with the student employee. During this meeting, a letter of termination will be provided along with copies of previous disciplinary measures. Grounds for termination may include, but are not limited to: Unfavorable background check Insubordination Policy or law violations and/or other instances that affect the employee's ability to be an effective role model. Violation of confidentiality Work not meeting quality standards Not performing responsibilities and expectations defined in contract.
