About The Position

Make the Road States (MRS) is the national home for the second-generation Make the Road family of organizations in Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Nevada, this in addition to New York, that serves to uplift the voices of working-class, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA people, and people of color across the Make the Roads umbrella. From an operational spectrum it serves as the Finance and Human Resources Compliance Officers for the umbrella at large. Make the Road Nevada (MRNV), a 501(c)(3) organization, holds a vision for Nevada that begins with building a strong grassroots foundation in Las Vegas and it ends with elevating the power of working-class immigrant communities in every community around the state. We do this by informing, empowering, and mobilizing our community to take action on important issues that directly affect their families and loved ones. MRNV is a newly unionized workplace, currently negotiating its first collective bargaining agreement Make the Road Action (MRA), a 501(c)(4) organization, is committed to building power for justice in immigrant and low-income working-class communities of color. MRA operates in five states - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. We work to create social change, connect voters to the candidates and issues most important to them, and work hands-on in a fast-paced environment to create long-term impact in the communities that need it most. Current Opening: The Organizing Director (OD) is responsible to lead and scale our grassroots’ organizing efforts across Nevada. This role will oversee campaign strategy, manage organizing staff, and build strong partnerships to advance justice for immigrant and working-class communities. The Organizing Director plays a critical leadership role in developing organizers, executing strategic campaigns, and strengthening coalition and community engagement. This position also collaborates cross-functionally to support fundraising and organizational growth.

Requirements

  • Eligible to work in the US;
  • 3+ years of experience managing or leading teams
  • 4+ years experience in organizing and/or campaign management
  • Strong commitment to social, racial, and economic justice, particularly for immigrant communitiesStrong interpersonal skills and ability to navigate complex relationships
  • Strong time management and prioritization, both for self and teamBelief in the power of grassroots organizing to create change to improving the quality of life for immigrants and working-class Nevadans and creating a pipeline of leaders from our local community
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and also to work independently, with the self-motivation to produce excellent work on time
  • High emotional intelligence and adaptability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Must be able to travel to the other offices in Nevada
  • Bilingual Spanish/English fluency

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fundraising, grant writing, or development support preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the organization and cultivate relationships with coalition partners and allied organizations
  • Ensure organizational standards, goals and strategic priorities are consistently met. Foster strong working relationships with Senior team and the MRStates staff
  • Lead and support civic engagement and political education efforts with staff and members
  • Manage organizing tools and systems, including CRM platforms, ensuring accurate data tracking and reporting.
  • Coordinate with senior leadership and cross-state teams to maintain alignment in messaging and strategy
  • Support the growth and retention of the organization’s membership base by maintaining accurate records, engaging members, and strengthening systems for outreach and follow-up
  • Supervise and mentor of Organizing Leads, Organizers, and interns
  • Build a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team environment
  • Develop and implement campaign strategy and plans on a week-to-week basis with organizers, including carrying out actions, rallies, press conferences and other tactics
  • Provide professional development plans and opportunities for organizing team and membership
  • Effectively manage and resolve conflict internally and externally
  • Coordinate organizing efforts across regions and with partner organizations to ensure cohesion
  • Support in research funding opportunities to continue to diversity the organization portfolio
  • Support the drafting, editing and submission of grant proposals.
  • Maintain a consistent pipeline of funding proposals and development activities
  • Support in managing grant requirements and reporting to ensure that deadlines are met
  • Assist in developing and managing budgets in collaboration with senior staff.
  • Represent the organization with current and prospective funders and support relationship building efforts.
