Job Description: The Organizer will have primary responsibility for outreach to PCAs and allied community organizations in northeastern Massachusetts including Lawrence and Lowell. The goal of the position is to build a movement of care providers that can make change in their working conditions. The organizer will help build the union by conducting individual outreach to PCAs, recruiting PCAs as 1199 members including asking for financial contributions to the Political Action Fund, holding small group meetings of PCAs, building committees of PCA activists, and working with PCAs and community organizations to lobby state legislators about long term care issues.

Requirements

  • Commitment to social, racial and economic justice
  • Union or community organizing experience
  • Basic computer proficiency and database skills
  • Ability to travel in Massachusetts as needed
  • Must have valid drivers license
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours as needed
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Bilingual and/or bicultural Spanish or Portuguese organizers encouraged to apply
