The Organ Procurement Trainer works closely with clinical staff, department leadership, and the Organ Procurement Optimization Training team (Training team) to increase organ donation and optimize organ utilization through effective onboarding and ongoing education of ODS staff. The Organ Procurement Trainer is responsible for delivering high quality training and education to Organ Recovery Coordinators (ORCs) and Organ Donation Coordinators (ODCs) (designated roles). This role serves as one of the principal resources for organ donation related clinical education in the organization. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Clinical Training: In collaboration with the Training team, assists in the delivery and implementation of effective and timely onboarding for the designated roles. Training follows current regulatory guidelines and compliance standards and remains focused on strategic and organizational goals. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of clinical guidelines and practices. Under the guidance of the Organ Optimization Educator (OOE), delivers trainings to designated roles during onboarding through various modalities. Outcome: Completes training functions and collaborates with leadership, Learning and Development, and distributed trainers to create efficiency and consistency with other onboarding programs. Assessment: Facilitates instructor-led clinical training in person, virtually, and onsite during case activity. Provides input on modifications for onboarding processes. Intervention: Leads in delivery and maintenance of training that is effective and in line with current practices, standards, and policies. Assists in tracking the progress of designated roles during onboarding to ensure a timely and effective orientation. Outcome: Communicates and documents the progress of designated roles during onboarding including completion of assignments and adequate clinical experiences. Assessment: Accurately keeps records of orientees, guides process and collaborates with department leadership and preceptors to manage schedules and orientee assignments. Assesses the needs of orientees and adapts training appropriately. Intervention: Assists in the onboarding process in collaboration with department leadership, Training team, preceptors and other stakeholders. Provides education, clinical expertise, guidance, and support to clinical staff onsite, in group settings and on a 1:1 basis. Works directly with designated roles onsite and during simulations to assess knowledge, ability and progress toward core competency signoffs and independent job functions. Outcome: Signs off designated roles in a timely and efficient manner and identifies when they can independently function in their roles. Assessment: Assesses orientees directly onsite and/or during simulation and gathers feedback from preceptors and other appropriate staff members. Intervention: Collaborates with Training team, department leadership, preceptors and other clinical staff to ensure timely feedback is being given and training needs are being met through direct observation and assessment. Provides guidance to preceptors to achieve and maintain standardized training processes and curriculum. Outcome: In collaboration with OOE, observes and coach’s preceptors to verify established standards are taught and followed in the field. Assessment: Suggests and assists improvement initiatives related to the Preceptor Program. Intervention: Collaborates with stakeholders to identify needs for development and improvement, assists in coaching and mentoring preceptors, and keeps up to date resources and tools for preceptors to utilize. Ongoing Training: Collaborates with the Training team to advance the procurement training program. Assists with development of clinical training courses that align with strategic and organizational goals. Outcome: Updates and assists in the building of procurement training courses. Assessment: Identifies content requiring updating or development and demonstrates initiative to make the needed changes. Intervention: Updates and develops simulated training as needed using various modalities in collaboration with the Clinical Simulation Educator (CSE) and Training team. Collaborates with stakeholders to provide foundational skills and ongoing education. Outcome: Participates in clinical skills day planning and facilitation. Leads simulations and conducts onsite evaluation for core competency reviews. Assessment: Executes ongoing training and evaluation with designated roles through onsite evaluation, simulation and didactic training. Intervention: Contributes to workgroups focused on ongoing educational needs of designated roles. Mentorship and Coaching: Acts as a leader and mentor to clinical staff with diplomatic communication, is approachable and open-minded, consistently exhibits growth mindset, demonstrates teamwork and always complies with clinical practice and regulatory standards. Encourages critical thinking, ensures timely completion of duties, and provides real time coaching and feedback including areas of opportunity and positive recognition. Outcome: Establishes strong working relationships with orientees and preceptors; provides regular feedback and coaching for growth and success. Assessment: Provides real-time, tangible feedback as indicated. Intervention: In collaboration with leadership and other stakeholders, serves as a mentor and provides ongoing feedback during onboarding and regarding preceptor duties. Communication and Collaboration: Engages effective communication and coordination regarding education and training with appropriate stakeholders. Develops and maintains effective communication and productive professional relationships with internal and external partners including transplant centers, hospital partners and donation organizations. Outcome: Works closely with Learning and Development, distributed trainers, leadership and clinical staff as well as external partners to optimize and align training functions with operations. Assessment: Frequently updates clinical staff and leadership. Clearly communicates with Resource Triage Coordinators (RTCs) and Administrators On-Call (AOCs) as needed to ensure appropriate orientee/preceptor assignments. Intervention: Attends departmental meetings and clinical case reviews as appropriate and regularly updates leadership on orientees and preceptors. Communicates directly with RTCs and AOCs and collaborates with Quality. Administrative and Quality Duties: Completes timely and accurate documentation in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and LifeCenter policies and procedures. Leads in efforts to maintain excellent documentation standards in the field. Outcome: Maintains accurate training records and assists procurement training with delegated administrative duties. Assessment: Keeps organized training records and completes assigned administrative duties including maintenance of case log forms, didactic schedules, and supply lists. Intervention: Completes and updates all training documents at regular intervals ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations and policies. Supervision This position collaborates with departmental leadership to ensure employees are appropriately trained and provided with resources to successfully complete job duties. This position serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department. Other Responsibilities Participates in, and may lead, employee committees and events. Complies with applicable laws, regulations, and LifeCenter policies and procedures.
