About The Position

As a Organ Placement Coordinator, you will directly contribute to LifeLink’s life-saving mission. Primary responsibility is to work within established LifeLink Foundation, OPO, and regulating agency policies and procedures to direct the resources available to bring about successful placement of organs for transplantation and research in attempts to maximize each donor outcome. Within established policies and protocols, participate in call rotation adhering to the protocol of communication with the LifeLink of Georgia and Puerto Rico Transplant Coordinator and Administrator On-call, as appropriate. This position maintains an ongoing open line of communication with the Organ Placement Manager and the OPO Director.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate appropriate resources for the successful placement of organs to transplant centers following established LifeLink and UNOS policies and protocols.
  • Coordinate appropriate resources for the successful placement of organs and tissues for research to Foundational approved research partners using established protocols.
  • Utilize UNet system to match donor organs to suitable transplant recipients, communicating donor details and organ offers to transplant centers, and coordinating organ acceptances.
  • Coordinate national kidney allocation with UNOS and complete logistical coordination of all cases between procurement agencies and transplant centers.
  • The Organ Placement Coordinator serves as the communication link for all involved in the allocation process.
  • Work closely with the onsite team to develop the medical social history narrative for DonorNet entry and assist in donor evaluation through assessment of donor condition, history, labs, diagnostics, and organ function.
  • Ensure Critical Elements have been completed, and the chart has been reviewed.
  • Serve as a liaison for LifeLink of Puerto Rico between transplant centers, surgical teams, other OPOs, and provide assistance in organ allocation responsibilities and coordinate the organ recovery.
  • The Organ Placement Coordinator is responsible for adjusting logistics to accommodate geographical challenges, time zone differences, and transplant center and OPO needs.
  • Obtain preliminary and final culture results and appropriately report to transplant centers pre and post recovery.
  • Maintain the chain of custody for organs post recovery and arrange logistics to transport organs and required specimen to transplant centers.
  • Document final disposition and organ outcomes.
  • Remotely monitor pulsatile perfusion of kidneys and communicate the appropriate information to the transplant centers and/or UNOS.
  • Participate in the call schedule performing all duties and responsibilities including placement coordination and documentation with follow-up as appropriate.
  • Participate in weekly conference calls/meetings to review organ placement efforts of each donor as appropriate.
  • Establish positive relationships with various hospitals, transplant centers and surgeon groups.
  • Participate in hospital development initiatives, coordinating schedules with appropriate hospital development manager/liaison.
  • Participate in research studies as directed by Manager.
  • Responsible for accurate and complete documentation, follow-up, and QA, meeting required deadlines.
  • Participate in continuing education courses and seminars necessary to obtain appropriate CEUs to maintain certifications and license.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, workshops, and external forums for the purpose of upgrading knowledge and skills.
  • Other coordination duties as assigned may include assisting in the training of new coordinators, and special projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for participating in quality assessment performance improvement (QAPI) activities for the OPO as outlined in the OPO Quality Assessment Performance Improvement Plan.
