The Ordnance Inspector provides technical oversight for all explosives operations conducted at Camp Navajo on a variety of ammunition and explosives (A&E) ranging from large rocket motors to conventional small arms. Works under the supervision of a federal Quality Assurance Specialist, Ammunition Surveillance (QASAS) to ensure established explosive safety principles are followed and completes inspections to determine the serviceability, and reliability, of Class V assets in accordance with current standard operating procedures, Department of Defense regulations, customer requirements, Department of the Army regulations, 49 CFR and per specific technical publications for each Class V asset. The incumbent of this position is responsible for quality control, and quality assurance for the ammunition surveillance program, and has the authority to stop any explosive operation that is not in compliance with written regulations, or procedures, or when an unsafe condition is observed. Out-of-state travel is required for certification and training. When required, performs all of the above duties off site in support of customer requirements. Increased customer requirements will/may include the need for Ordnance Inspector to perform specialized oversight of the handling of AA&E such as; disassembly of arm/disarm and safe devices, nozzle removal, exudate cleanup, component installations/removals as specified by customer technical documents. Actively participates in promoting a continuous improvement workplace culture, through the use of teamwork, root cause problem solving, standard operating procedures, and review of performance metrics.
