Daviess County Public Schools seeks to hire an enthusiastic, energetic, collaborative, and hard-working orchestra teacher to join an exciting multi-level program. The teacher will be the lead orchestra teacher and be responsible for orchestra instruction at Burns Middle School, College View Middle School, and Apollo High School. (One assistant director position supports instruction with teaching schedules determined typically on an annual basis.) Expected outcomes are continued individual musical growth of all enrolled students, leading to consistent presentation of ensemble excellence. Assumes professional responsibility for providing learning experiences in music and the performing arts and supervision of students in a supportive and positive climate that develops in each student the skills and attitudes. Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, instruction, and rehearsal can be accomplished within the allotted time. Plan and present public concerts in the schools, throughout the district and in the community at large. Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and initiates repairs to instruments as required with the designated vendor. Work proactively and cooperatively with band and choir personnel to ensure the mutual benefit of all district music programs. Provide feedback specifically to administration regarding growth trajectory of the program. Solicit and actively coordinate the efforts of parent volunteer supporters. Maintain a current and accurate inventory of all orchestra equipment and advise administration of needs in a timely manner. Maintain an orchestra library. Actively participate in professional organizations which foster and support music education. Maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities related to music. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials as requested. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
