About The Position

The Museum School of Avondale Estates is seeking a qualified, dynamic, and passionate educator to serve as an Orchestra/Music Teacher. This role involves instructing grades 6–8 orchestra and has the option to be combined with elementary general music (grades 4–5) to form a full-time position. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering engaging, hands-on learning experiences that align with the Georgia Standards of Excellence and the Museum School model. The educator will cultivate a love for music, build a strong ensemble culture, and collaborate with the existing music teacher to ensure a cohesive and enriching K–8 music program. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music (Music Education preferred)
  • Valid Georgia P–12 teaching certification in music (in-field)
  • Experience and desire to work with both elementary and middle school students
  • Proficiency on at least one string instrument
  • Knowledge of diverse instructional strategies and teaching methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate curriculum and apply effective instructional practices
  • Experience developing standards-based lessons, units, and assessments
  • Strong organizational, planning, and implementation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement standards-aligned lessons and activities (including general music, if applicable)
  • Deliver instruction grounded in the Museum School model, including hands-on, inquiry-based learning
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and learning styles
  • Prepare 7th and 8th grade orchestra students for Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE)
  • Collaborate with music staff and school teams to support performances, concerts, Exhibit Nights, and Learning Expeditions
  • Contribute to a cohesive and aligned K–8 music program
  • Establish and maintain a proactive, consistent classroom management system
  • Reflect on instructional practices and engage in ongoing professional growth, including the development of a Professional Growth Plan
  • Organize and oversee overnight orchestra trip once per year in conjunction with the music teacher
  • Organize evening and school orchestra performances two times per year
