About The Position

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) KBVR-TV Assistant Station Manager position for the Orange Media Network (OMN) at Oregon State University (OSU). The KBVR-TV Assistant Station Manager is responsible for coordinating volunteers to produce video series for the KBVR website and social media pages.

Requirements

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard.
  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program.
  • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term.
  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term.
  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term.
  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term.
  • Comfortable shooting and editing video.
  • Knowledgeable about live studio production.
  • Knowledgeable about field video production.
  • Knowledgeable of legal regulations and ethical principles guiding television and video.
  • Knowledge of video editing software.
  • Is a strong writer, communicator and comfortable with public speaking.
  • Is organized and reliable.
  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback.
  • Able to remain professional and calm when working with difficult individuals and situations.
  • Is knowledgeable and experienced in building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Has previously been a paid staff member or crew member of KBVR-TV.
  • Prior attendance and participation in OMN training camp.
  • Capable of effectively using web tools and social media for building engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with KBVR-TV volunteers to connect them to trainings, check-in, and find new opportunities for crew positions at KBVR.
  • Actively recruit students to create YouTube series for KBVR-TV. Help them develop their concept - defining what the videos are about, genre, what makes the series unique and accessible.
  • Work with TV Station Manager and web series creators to establish individual production schedules for each web series, including the schedule for the shoot, edit, deadline for delivering the finished video, and frequency of videos.
  • Assist and advise web series creators with shoots, direction, writing, and minor editing as needed. Creators should be solely responsible for the content of their video.
  • Send reviewed videos to Station Manager for final review, and update the KBVR-TV website, social media pages, and YouTube regularly with reviewed web series episodes and videos. Update Station Manager on progress.
  • Create a social media schedule and consistently post engaging content to social media platforms, including video links, behind the scenes photos, social media videos, and more, collaborating with station manager and producers.
  • Update a weekly KBVR-TV calendar with information on meeting notes, dates, and other information.
  • Assist live shows with productions as needed.
  • Assist Station Manager and Producers with social media for shows, including posting and promotion.
  • Ensure all crew are trained on the use of OMN equipment before production begins.
  • Respond to emails, messages and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN.
  • Notify adviser immediately should any ethical, legal, personnel or controversial problems occur.
  • Hold and post regular office hours each week for Orange Media Network, at least half of which should be during regular business hours (8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday).
  • Follow all OMN policies and procedures and hold all staff and volunteers to them.
  • Act professionally.

Benefits

  • Hourly pay ranging from $14.20 to $21.00 depending on location and experience.
  • Part-time position with a maximum of 24 hours per week.
