About the position
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, maintain, and optimize the city's Oracle database systems until they are able to phase Oracle out. The Oracle DBA will ensure the security, availability, and performance of mission-critical databases supporting various departments across the municipal government. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to public service.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain Oracle database environments (including RAC and Data Guard)
- Monitor database performance, implement tuning improvements, and troubleshoot issues proactively
- Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies in alignment with city business continuity policies
- Implement and enforce database security policies, access controls, and user account management
- Collaborate with application development teams to support database design, deployment, and performance optimization
- Maintain data integrity and support ETL processes and data integration projects
- Create and maintain documentation, including database architecture diagrams, SOPs, and disaster recovery plans
- Provide support during emergency incidents and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation as needed
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards, including CJIS, HIPAA, and local government policies
- Train and mentor junior IT staff or cross-functional personnel when required
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience as an Oracle DBA in a production environment
- Experience with database security and regulatory compliance
- Expertise in Oracle Database versions 12c/19c, Oracle Enterprise Manager, RMAN, and PL/SQL
- Proficient in database performance tuning and troubleshooting
Nice-to-haves
- Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Oracle Cloud certifications
- Experience supporting municipal or government systems and applications
- Knowledge of Oracle Exadata, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), or other hybrid/cloud systems
- Familiarity with GIS, ERP systems (e.g., Tyler Technologies, SAP), or public sector platforms
