The OR Unit Specialist is an RN who assumes an expanded role within the OR. Based on knowledge and experience, the individual in conjunction with the nursing leadership in the OR helps establish standards for the assigned specialties, acts as a liaison for the surgeons, facilitates case flow, assists in the orientation and training of OR personnel, and helps maintain adequate par levels of equipment, supplies, and implants within the surgical specialties. Job Description Functions as a role model and preceptor to nursing personnel assigned to the service. Teaches Perioperative nursing by functioning in both the scrub and circulating roles. Completes orientation skills and experience checklists on new personnel. Completes documentation regarding nursing personnel competency regarding specialty skills and equipment. Works with the OR nursing leadership team to establish nursing standards for patient care within the assigned specialty. Conducts formal and informal in-service presentations as needed to assist OR staff with skills maintenance. Participates in unit and hospital continuing education programs. Demonstrates, enforces and maintains intra-operative standards of care.
