About The Position

The Surgical Technologist (ST) delivers care in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the ASC/AST and regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics. The Surgical Technologist assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of owning an individual level of knowledge and experience and assuming responsibility for one's own professional advancement. The ST is an interdisciplinary team member utilizing the nursing process to integrate all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient's needs.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited ARC/ASTA Surgical Technology program including appropriate documented clinical hours
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience
  • Flexible and willing to learn new specialties and function well in a team setting
  • National Certification in Surgical Technology
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the following specialties: Orthopedics, Podiatry, General Surgery including robot & laparoscopy, Urology and Vascular

Responsibilities

  • Scrub independently on surgical cases
  • Understands and demonstrates knowledge of sterile techniques
  • Understands the role of patient advocate in the surgical setting
  • Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments and medical errors
  • Responsible and accountable for the appropriate delegation of patient care to other members of the health care team
  • Communicates effectively and collaborates with physicians and other patient care providers
  • Responsible for consistently setting and evaluating priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement
  • Other essential duties as required
