The position is located at 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, New York, and is a full-time role within the Surgical Support Services department, requiring 40 hours per week. The compensation range for this position is $20.31 - $27.42 per hour, based on various factors including market data, education, experience, and qualifications.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree and 3 years of related work experience required.
  • Experience in an Emergency Department setting preferred.
  • 1 year in a position demonstrating the ability to work with minimum supervision and direct an office operation preferred.
  • Medical terminology experience preferred.
  • Experience with PICIS and Flowcast preferred.
  • Ability to type accurately preferred.
  • Skills related to achievement of customer satisfaction preferred.
  • Ability to deal calmly but efficiently with medical professionals during life-threatening situations preferred.
  • Maintain a strong customer service approach at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the smooth, efficient patient care flow through all of Perioperative Services and the Operating Room.
  • Facilitates workflow in the department by supporting Anesthesia clinical coordinators, charge nurses, surgeons, and additional faculty and staff.
  • Prioritizes critical patient cases and communicates emergency Operating Room changes and fluctuations.
  • Functions as the primary liaison between all levels of staff and faculty in and out of the Operating Room.
  • Maintains the White Board in collaboration with the Anesthesia Clinical Coordinator and Charge Nurse.
  • Triages patient calls, assesses clinical urgency, and determines appropriate actions.
  • Maintains the manual Operating Room schedule as a backup.
  • Books emergent cases and coordinates appropriate faculty and staff.
  • Initiates the printing and organizing of the next day’s patient call slips and wristbands.
  • Handles complaints from patients, faculty, nursing, and anesthesiology.
  • Answers incoming phone calls in the communications center and routes calls appropriately.
  • Monitors inventory of supplies and manages supply ordering.
  • Coordinates daily efforts to edit and correct registration and billing errors.
  • Utilizes EMR and scheduling software programs to facilitate workflow.
  • Manages patient tracking system ensuring correct location of patients.
  • Provides training to other staff as a designated preceptor.
  • Acts as an information resource for all departmental staff.
  • Attends education programs for the department and educates other staff.
  • Performs other patient-focused tasks as assigned.
