The OR/Sterile Processing Liaison reports to the Sterile Processing Manager. Under limited supervision, the Sterile Processing Liaison develops customer relationships that enable staff to acquire and maintain the service necessary to support operational and organizational goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent/GED required.
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program preferred.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician or Certified Surgical Technician required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technician.
  • One year of previous leadership experience in a team lead/supervisory or peer leadership capacity.
  • Experience as OR Scrub Technician preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated communication skills (diplomacy and tact).

Responsibilities

  • Serves as liaison between the Sterile Processing department and the Operating Room department to assure smooth, uninterrupted daily instrument support.
  • Coordinates sterile processing functions necessary to support the OR, including decontamination, processing, and sterilization of surgical instruments.
  • Coordinates with the SP manager to execute plans and projects for continuous performance improvement.
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgical team and participates in daily rounds.
  • Coordinates an inventory of instruments and assures that patient/physician needs for specialty surgical instrumentation are met.
  • Contributes to the internal review of department standards with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Functions as preceptor for new employees for all surgical specialties.
  • Participates as a member of the team; active in performance improvement and understands relationships between organizational and SPD activities.
  • Provides recommendations on the storage and deletion of instruments on the core storage racks.
  • Responds to immediate physician's needs; develops and implements permanent solutions in conjunction with Service Team members and the Sterile Processing Manager/shift coordinator(s).
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency.
  • Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
