About The Position

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing interpretive, patient care and technical functions to ensure proper radiological diagnosis of patients under the direction of the department manager. The Radiographer II will have additional responsibilities precepting new employees and students in addition to being an expert resource for all front-line.

Requirements

  • Competent using fixed, portable, C-arm, and O-arm equipment across Radiology.
  • 6 months experience required.
  • Education sufficient to obtain required licensure/certification.
  • American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) certificate required.
  • Iowa Department of Public Health State Permit to Practice Diagnostic Radiography required.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
  • Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employees must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year experience in surgical radiography preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed.
  • Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing diagnostic radiographic examinations using fixed, portable, C-arm, and O-arm equipment across Radiology and additional locations as needed, including Fluoroscopy, Pain Clinic, and Diagnostic X-ray.
  • Adheres strictly to established protocols while applying radiation safety principles (ALARA) to ensure the lowest possible radiation dose is used to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Explains and prepares the patient for all Radiographic procedures.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of RIS, PACS, Workday and other computer software as assigned.
  • Identifies each patient correctly verifying the exam to be performed is being done on the correct patient.
  • Reviews each patient's medical history and clinical diagnosis for appropriateness of exam.
  • Reviews radiographic images for technique, positioning, laterality, patient demographics and image quality and repeats images of poor quality.
  • Works in Surgery as a radiographer and participates in the OR call rotation, sharing on-call responsibilities with other OR radiographers to ensure continuous coverage and support for surgical procedures.
  • Adheres to all infection control policies in surgery.
  • Understands the School of Radiologic Technology's clinical competency system.
  • Maintains current knowledge of School of Radiology policies, procedures, and student progress.
  • Understands requirements for student supervision as outlined in the Student Supervision policy for the Mercy/St. Luke's school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Communicates with School of Radiology faculty on student-related progress and issues.
  • Attends and participates in meetings/educational programs in Radiologic Technology Education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
