About The Position

The OR Nurse Manager oversees all perioperative nursing and clinical operations within the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), including the Operating Room (OR), Pre-Op, and PACU. This position ensures the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of surgical care while maintaining compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements (CMS, AAAHC/JCAHO, OSHA, NJDOH). The OR Nurse Manager provides clinical leadership, staffing oversight, performance management, quality assurance, and operational coordination to support physicians, nurses, and clinical staff. This role ensures an exceptional patient experience and a collaborative, high-performing team environment.

Requirements

  • Active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum 3 years of perioperative/OR nursing experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of nursing leadership experience (charge nurse, supervisor, manager).
  • BLS and ACLS certifications (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sterile technique, infection prevention, and OR workflow.
  • Ability to analyze clinical and operational issues, interpret regulations and protocols, and make sound decisions in environments with limited standardization.
  • Capable of adapting to changing priorities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems, surgical scheduling software, Microsoft Office Suite, and clinical documentation platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily clinical operations of the OR, Pre-Op, and PACU, ensuring safe and efficient patient care.
  • Uphold professional nursing standards, aseptic technique, and infection prevention protocols.
  • Develop, review, and maintain ASC nursing policies, procedures, and clinical standards annually.
  • Serve as a resource to nursing staff, physicians, and patients for perioperative care.
  • Direct the operative schedule and coordinate case flow, block time utilization, and scheduling adjustments.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels for OR and PACU to meet patient needs.
  • Oversee ordering and inventory management of medications, surgical supplies, equipment, and implants.
  • Maintain documentation of medical waste handling and compliance with regulations.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance, repairs, inspections, and vendor relationships.
  • Lead the ASC’s Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
  • Oversee the Infection Prevention and Control Program for the ASC.
  • Maintain compliance with CMS, AAAHC/JCAHO, OSHA, and NJ Department of Health regulations.
  • Participate in inspections, audits, accreditation surveys, and internal reviews.
  • Maintain accurate employee health and clinical competency records.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate nursing and clinical staff.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations aligned with clinical competencies.
  • Address staff performance concerns and follow corrective action processes as necessary.
  • Conduct staff meetings and foster a supportive, collaborative work culture.
  • Maintain and update clinical job descriptions and competency assessments.
  • Assist in budget preparation and monitor spending, inventory, and supply utilization.
  • Maintain ethical vendor relationships and support evaluation of new equipment or technology.
  • Coordinate staff scheduling within budgetary constraints and patient volume needs.
  • Ensure excellent communication with physicians, clinical staff, patients, and families.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and staff records.
  • Ensure staff adhere to dress code, identification requirements, and professional conduct standards.
  • Represent the ASC positively to patients, families, vendors, and community partners.
  • Maintain mandatory certifications (BLS/ACLS) and participate in continuing education.
  • Ensure staff compliance with emergency preparedness procedures and OSHA standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
