About The Position

An RN circulator, or circulating nurse, plays a vital role in the operating room (OR) and is responsible for managing the overall nursing care within the OR to ensure a safe and efficient surgical environment. The Registered Nurse implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person and the creation of a caring environment focused on healing and wellness. Nursing practices are based on evidence and current research as well as hospital and department policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines. Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity. The role involves assessment and identification of patient needs and implementation of appropriate interventions considering the needs of patient populations per department scope of service. The RN circulator also handles delegation of nursing care activities and provisions of supervision; establishes and maintains a plan for the delivery of nursing care; assures that nursing care interventions and activities are directed to resolve problems; and performs technical aspects of care competently. This position has access to medication storage areas as required for job tasks and follows Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures.

Requirements

  • Current RN licensure recognized by the Kentucky State Board of Nursing is required
  • Current RN licensure or temporary Kentucky work permit
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Completion and maintenance of BLS
  • ACLS & PALS (or ENPC) within 6 months of hire
  • NIHSS within 3 months of hire
  • Successful completion of all competencies as identified on the departmental nurse competency grid
