About The Position

Your job is more than a job. Optometrist - Vision Center Full-time University Medical Center New Orleans, LA The Optometrist is a specialty professional in the care of Optometry. Evaluates the patients' eyes by performing comprehensive eye exams, treat patients for any eye disease which needs optometry diagnosis and/or treatment to achieve palliation or cure. Provides consultation and care for patients. GENERAL DUTIES Optometric Examinations: Performs independent patient examinations within the scope of licensure, to include refractions and prescription of eyeglasses and contact lenses. Educates and counsels patients as to options available to give best visual outcomes. Completes prompt interpretation of diagnostic tests. Contact Lens Department Performance: Performs contact lens examinations and fittings. Provides patient education for contact lenses including but not limited to insertion, removal and cleaning of lenses. Follows optometry practice standards for contact lens fitting and dispensing. Administrative: Advises director of ambulatory clinics of schedule changes according to the current Clinic Closure Guidelines. Documents all patient encounters in the medical record within Federal and State law. Ensures all information related to billing for professional services is documented in the medical records. Maintains outcomes analysis for various procedures as directed. Adheres to OSHA and HIPAA polices. LCMC Health is a community. Our people make health happen. Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited optometry program
  • Optometrist LA State Board of Optometry
  • Competent in giving quality patient eye care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with patients of all ages.
  • Organized, with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and use beneficial technology.
  • Ability to meet patient volume needs.
  • Ability to follow practice policies and procedures.
  • Ability to keep documentation rules and guidelines established by federal, state and commercial insurance to always remain within compliance.
  • Ability to represent profession as a role model within the practice.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years Ophthalmology setting (preferred)
  • Low vision and keratoconus experience (preferred)
