About The Position

The Department of Ophthalmology at Loyola University Medical Center seeks a full-time residency trained Optometrist. Candidates must have completed a four-year program at an accredited optometry school. Candidates must have strong academic interests including high quality patient care, clinical teaching of optics and contact lens management to ophthalmology residents, as well as some scholarship focus. The academic rank will be commensurate with their training, qualifications and experience. Recent graduates will assume the rank of Assistant Professor of Optometry in the Department of Ophthalmology. Currently, the Loyola Department of Ophthalmology (Maywood and 4 additional satellite offices) and neighboring Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital manage over 65,000 patient visits per year. Currently 35 clinical faculty (17 full-time and 18 part-time) provide strong mentorship and outstanding clinical expertise in all the subspecialties. A dedicated resident education team including the Program Director, the Vice Chair of Education, the Residency Coordinator and 2 co-Chief Residents manage the residency training program of four residents per year. We also have a world class VR Simulation program for training ophthalmology residents, medical students as well as residents in other subspecialties. A robust calendar of CME programs provides outstanding exposure to regional and national experts in vision research and global eye health as well as all the subspecialties with an annual city-wide surgical wet lab for the 72 residents in Chicago. The main Loyola research facility is a 225K square foot Center for Translational Research and Education (CTRE), which opened in 2015 and houses the clinical Research Office (CRO) and research administration.
