About The Position

Geisinger's Eye Institute has an opening to join our Lewistown/ State College team. Geisinger's Lewistown Eye Clinic is a satellite branch of the well-renowned Geisinger Eye Institute: a driven, successful, and growing multi-specialty group integrating both optometric and ophthalmologic services. The position involves taking on a growing practice complete with onsite Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Cataract, and Pediatric services, as well as a built-in referral network to offsite Retina, Glaucoma, Oculoplastics, and other subspecialties. Our highly trained Optometrists practice medical optometry, to the highest scope of practice, working closely and co-managing patients with our ophthalmologists. The position is supported by ophthalmic technicians who will provide patient work up and testing.

Requirements

• Doctoral Degree in Optometry.
• Licensed Medical Doctor in the State of Pennsylvania.
• Experience or Residency training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Examine and diagnose eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, and retinal diseases.
• Diagnose related systemic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes that may affect the eyes.
• Examine, diagnose, and treat visual conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia.
• Prescribe glasses, contact lenses, low-vision rehabilitation, and medications.
• Perform minor surgical procedures such as the removal of foreign bodies.
• Interview patients to obtain information such as symptoms, medical histories, and family histories.
• Perform and/or interpret diagnostic tests as needed.
• Diagnose and design a plan of treatment for injuries and/or illness.
• Prepare, maintain, and review records that include patients' histories, examination findings, treatment plans, or outcomes.
