The Optometrist works collaboratively with the General Manager and Optometrist in Charge to ensure each patient receives the best possible care, and the office achieves productivity and performance goals. This role also involves working with the Department of Ophthalmology to ensure the seamless delivery of eye care to all patients, supporting professional staffing and office coverage needs, and training ancillary staff.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the program from a school of Optometry.
  • Previous direct patient care experience.
  • Experience in primary care optometry preferred.
  • Licensed as an Optometrist in the State of Michigan.
  • Must be T.P.A./D.P.A. certified.
  • Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviors as outlined in the HFHS' Customer Service Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Primary eye care including ocular health evaluation, eye glass prescriptions, contact lens prescriptions and care, and management of eye disease.
  • Comprehensive primary eye care and routine eye care including comprehensive examinations, refractions, and contact lens services.
  • Medical eye care for acute and chronic eye diseases.
  • Specialty eye care privileges based on training and experience.
  • Work with General Manager and Director of Clinical Services to maintain proper professional staffing and coverage within the clinic.
  • Support ancillary staff training programs.
  • Support practice building programs and develop new relationships with Henry Ford Medical Centers, ERs, and other system entities.
  • Maintain existing relationships with key individuals.
  • Attend regularly scheduled office and staff meetings.
  • Act as a role model for other staff.
  • Embrace best practices to ensure the highest possible level of professional care.
