As an Optometrist Assistant, you will schedule patient appointments, prepare patients for examination, and train patients to take care of their glasses and contact lenses. This position will work with the patients and report to the Optometrist. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists the doctor with patient examinations by taking selected case history information and performing tests for visual acuity, tonometry tests, blood pressure, depth perception and color vision and additional tests as needed and/or as requested by the Optometrist. Maintains accurate patient charts and records. Assists the Optometrist to include scheduling examinations, confirming appointments, collecting fees; maintains records of daily deposits. Maintains records, schedules appointments, prepares correspondence, and filing. Prepares patient for vision examination; assists in testing for near and far acuity, depth perception, macula integrity, color perception, and visual field, utilizing ocular testing apparatus as directed by Optometrist. Instructs patient in care and use of glasses or contact lenses. Works with patient in vision therapy. Assists patient in frame selection. Adjusts and repairs glasses. Modifies contact lenses. Maintains inventory of materials and cleans instruments. Assists in fabrication of eye glasses or contact lenses. Ensures the safety and comfort of patient and families according to legal, organizational and professional standards.
